Oblique-banded leafroller (OBLR) has been a widespread pest of apples in Washington State but recently is not encountered often. It can be a pest of cherries but recently is controlled by spinosins applied for spotted-wing drosophila. Larvae in apples are controlled with most ovicide/larvicide applications for codling moth. If an orchard is not receiving regular applications of pesticides for codling moth, OBLR can quickly increase and become a serious pest. A few products, such as Bt, are more suitable for control of OBLR than codling moth. Mating disruption is also used to supplement control, but it is used rarely and has not been as effective as codling moth mating disruption.
